HÖRMANN Automotive GmbH and HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering GmbH have entered the "IQ Innovation Award Central Germany" cluster innovation competition with their innovative integral chassis concept. The innovation prize promotes innovative, marketable products, processes and services.

Light commercial vehicles are subject to a very high degree of variance due to a wide variety of application scenarios, which can currently only be realized at high cost using a large number of tools. In addition, electrified light commercial vehicles are often based on conventional combustion engine platforms in large-scale production. This wastes valuable space, as these vehicles are not consistently designed and conceived for the use of alternative drive systems.

Inspired by nature

The HÖRMANN Group chassis is specifically designed for the use of alternative drives and represents a universal platform for different superstructures. It follows a consistent structural lightweight design approach, which takes into account the cost sensitivity of the transport industry and the vehicle design requirements of electrified, light commercial vehicles in particular.

The shape of the new overall topology of the chassis is reminiscent of natural structures (shell, turtle, nut), which are oval in shape to protect internal components. This means that in the event of a crash, the overall structure automatically protects the energy storage unit located between the side members, which is also supported by load-adaptive structures in the side members.

IQ Innovation Award

The IQ Innovation Award Central Germany has been awarded by the European Metropolitan Region of Central Germany for 16 years and has already developed into a nationally established brand that conveys the message of Central Germany as a location for innovation both internally and externally. The competition is organized in five industry-specific clusters. In addition, an industry-independent jury will select an overall winner of the competition from the ten cluster finalists. The overall winner of the Innovation Award can look forward to prize money of 15,000 euros.
