DSW21 - maiden voyage
New and modernized vehicles for the Dortmund public utility company DSW21
Hörmann Vehicle Engineering is proud to have made a contribution to sustainable transport mobility for the city of #Dortmund as a development and integration partner of the Leipzig-based company @HeiterBlick.
As a leading independent engineering service provider for rail vehicle development, we were responsible for the mechanical development and construction of the new Dortmund B-cars. The pure development work took place from 2018 to 2022, with construction supervision and support for the approval process lasting until 2024. DSW21 pursued the goal of closely aligning the appearance of the new carriages and the existing fleet.
The key points of our work were the conceptual reuse of existing carriage body structures from the existing B80 carriage fleet and the associated structural upgrading of the existing vehicles to meet the current standards. At the same time, the new and modernized vehicles will of course be equipped with modern system components and improved technical functions, most of which were provided by the e-partner @Kiepe Electric in a consortium with @HeiterBlick. The integration of a new, contemporary vehicle interior with passenger information systems and more accessible special usage areas has met the wishes of the end customer and the passengers to be transported for more comfort.
The first new @DSW21 vehicles have been in operation on the Dortmund route network since April 23, 2024 and are proving very popular with passengers. Since 18 July 2024, the first modernized vehicle has now also arrived at DSW21 in Dortmund, thus contributing to sustainable passenger transport in one of the most important metropolises in #Germany through increased energy efficiency.
