10 years of the Dessau branch
The branch of HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering GmbH in Dessau is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year 2020. On October 1, 2010, the branch was founded under the name Voith Engineering Services GmbH at the traditional rail vehicle construction site in Dessau. When it was founded, the team consisted of a total of 10 employees. Currently, 16 engineers and technicians are employed at the site.
The areas of responsibility lie in the mechanical development, design and technical calculation of rail vehicles and their assemblies, which are also realized for regional, national and international clients across locations.
Various large-scale projects with sustainable effects
One of the first major projects at the Dessau site was the TW3000 light rail vehicle, which was developed for the Leipzig streetcar manufacturer HeiterBlick from 2011 and designed for use by Üstra in Hanover. The services included the complete mechanical development of the body shell, driver's cab, interior and exterior as well as technical calculations. The last of the 153 TW3000 light rail vehicles successfully entered regular service in August 2020.
The development of a drive module and a battery module for converting a VT642 into an EcoTrain for DB Regio represented a contribution to sustainability in rail vehicle construction. By converting the train with this new hybrid drive, emissions and noise can be significantly reduced.
In 2017, an innovative vehicle was developed at the Dessau site for RAlpin AG, the Swiss operator of the Rolling Road (RoLa). This new vehicle for RoMo 2020 is an articulated train for accompanied combined transport for the transportation of entire trucks. The articulated train will mainly operate in Europe (CH, A, D, IT).
Despite the current coronavirus situation, the branch manager, Marcel Burkat, is positive about the prospects for the next few years at the Dessau site. The branch offers prospective engineers and technicians the opportunity to work on innovative and sustainable topics as part of their final theses or internships. This year, for example, two graduates from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences joined the team after successfully completing their studies.
